Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima is an auberge-style resort hotel. Our founding philosophy is based on providing the ultimate in hospitality while protecting the majesty of Yakushima’s natural World Heritage site.
The auberge is nestled on a verdant hill at the foot of the mountains, overlooking the sea on the island’s southeast side.
Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima sits in a serene corner of a natural wonderland formed over the course of millennia.
We look forward to welcoming you to an area resplendent with the blessings of nature, expressed through a unique blend of food, ambiance, and butler service.
The name Sankara evokes an air of mystery and means “blessings from heaven” in Sanskrit.
We chose this name to reflect the five S’s that underpin our philosophy―safety, sophistication, scenery, surprise and service―and in honor of the great nature of Yakushima, which is home to a natural World Heritage site.
Relax while enjoying drinks and light bites at the poolside, or take in the magnificent sunrise from the hilltop view overlooking the sea.
Forget the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a night indulging in a journey of contemplation.
Explore a collection of books spanning topics such as Yakushima, cuisine, wine and saunas, expertly compiled by book curator Yoshitaka Haba.
Drinks, sweet dishes and aperitifs are also provided during your stay.
The “For Yakushima” Declaration is a statement of our commitment to living in harmony with the rich nature of Yakushima, which is home to a natural World Heritage site.
We place great importance on our responsibility to care for the island’s natural environment, and have established the Sankara Fund as part of these efforts.
Moving forward, all of us at Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima will continue to engage in wide-ranging activities to protect and foster the nature and communities that call Yakushima home.
Thank you for your support in these nature conservation efforts.
We established the Sankara Fund as a way to support environmental conservation on Yakushima, which is home to a natural World Heritage site.
These activities are supported through a donation of 500 yen per person per stay, which is collected from each visitor to Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima.
